Breeze

“Breeze” shows the emptiness that comes with memory loss. The struggle to remember things both short term and long term is something I have had difficulty with for a long time. The inability to remember tasks, due dates, memories, often feels like there are holes in me, and these gaps allow anything to pass through them, but nothing sticks.

Breeze started as three closed form coil pots of varied sizes- large, medium, small

Once the pieces were a firm leather hard, I then began to sketch the plan for carving.

I bisque fired each piece and then prepared them for the soda kiln.

Lastly I soda fired the vessels to cone 10 with 3 liters of soda ash and 3 whiting “burritos”

To hand carve each hole, I used an x-acto blade to cut the shapes and then used my fingers to smooth the edges. I then let them fully dry after refining the base.
